Introduction
These two turtles are from the New England Aquarium's Rescue and Rehabilatation program. Every year the Aquarium takes in cold-stunned Kemp's ridleys, loggerhead and green seaturtles collected from the Cape Cod region of Massachusetts. These turtles arrive in very poor condition some with frozen flippers and core temperatures near 38 deg F. Most, thankfully, arrive with core temperatures between 50 and 40 deg. F. As well as being nearly frozen, many have other serious injuries and/or infections.
The goal of our program is to rehabilitate these fantastic animals and release them back to the wild where they can have a second chance.
