Background
***26th October. The data currently being received from this satellite tag (from October 22nd, which follow several weeks of no transmissions) are suggestive that this tag is no longer attached to Gill. The majority of locations being received have very high estimates of location accuracy, this behaviour is rather unlike that of a tag attached to a shark. We are following the incoming data closely and will be more confident of the fate of the tag in coming days.***
***10th November. It is clear now that the satellite tag is no longer attached to Gill, thanks Gill for you hard efforts. We will now switch off the mapping update for this tag and present only those data that were created while the tag was attached.***
All sharks were named by suggestions sent to SNH by members of the public. As the most prominent feature of the basking shark is its gape exposing its huge gills, Gill is a very fitting suggestion.
