Background
A late day capture on the National Elk Refuge, this eagle had the highest blood lead levels ever recorded in an eagle, wild or captive. While we thought this eagle would likely die from the extreme amounts of lead in its system likely from spent rifle ammunition, we were happily surprised to be mistaken. This adult male is now nesting up in central Saskatchewan.
