This is the track of Chilly who was released from the beach on Topsail Island, North Carolina on 02 June 2004. Chilly's transmitter has been sending intermittant signals, usually with a "Z" location class that gives no precise latitude or longitude information. It has been nearly one month with no signal from Chilly, until today, 19 August 2004: another "Z" location. We still don't know where he is, but it appears that he is still swimming around somewhere. We are patiently waiting for a definitive location class to know where Chilly really is.

Background

Chilly is a juvenile loggerhead sea turtle that was found in a poundnet in Core Sound, North Carolina, in November 2003. He was lethargic and weak due to the cold inshore waters he was found in. Chilly was immediately transported to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabiliation Center in Topsail, North Carolina, where he has responded well to his treatment and TLC administered by the volunteers and interns of the Center. Chilly was released on the beach at Topsail on 2 June 2004, to the cheers of hundreds of onlookers.
