Background
In June 2012 this female loggerhead was tracked from the Iskele coast, Famagusta Bay, Cyprus, as part as an ongoing study by Marine Turtle Research Group, University of Exeter, into the habitat use of Mediterranean loggerhead turtles and their threats at sea. After nesting in Famagusta bay between 1st June when she was tagged and 5th July, she travelled from Cyprus South West to Libya, passing through Tripoli and on to the Tunisian border. There she found an offshore foraging ground, probably the same site from which she migrated last spring. Here she will remain for the next few years until an instinctive reproductive urge will direct her back to Cyprus to nest.
We named the turtle KINGs after Peter Rogers and Kings Bar in Esentepe made a substantial contribution towards the project. Many thanks to Peter and all at Kings Bar for the help.
