A project of Marine Turtle Research Group.

Safiro started to head in the direction of North Africa soon after we attached a transmitter to her. In the area of Malta, she changed her course a few times, but then resumed to head towards the Gulf of Gabès. She has been foraging there all winter and will likely stay there until her transmitter stopped.

Background

Safior is the last Zakynthian loggerhead equipped with a satellite transmitter this season. She had chosen to emerge on a developed part of beach and crawled into a wall at the back of the beach, which luckily didn’t deter her from nesting. Safiro did not bear any tags before we encoutered her.
