Background
DELFINA was a new nester at Machalilla National Park (MNP) in 2011 for the project. She laid 3 nests in La Playita this season, they will hopefully produce many hatchlings that will help keep this critically endangered population surviving for a long time. Delfina was equipped with a satellite tag on march 14th 2011, becoming the 6th hawksbill to be followed via satellite telemetry from MNP, the only known hawksbill nesting site in South America, in a project that is revealing very important information for the conservation of Eastern Pacific hawksbills.
This project is conducted by Equilibrio Azul with the help of the Machalilla National Park, NFWF, ICAPO, NOAA, and Conservation International-Ecuador.
