Background

Junior was accidentally captured by a shrimp net on April 21th 2008 at the Embudo Channel (Bahia Blanca estuary). Raul and his crew of the "Santa María de la Scalla" brought the turtle to the port of Ingeniero White and called people from PRICTMA. After a veterinary examination a satellite transmitter was deployed on the turtle to study their movements in the estuary and posterior seasonal migrations to warmer waters during the winter. Junior weighted 9.5 kg and measured 40.5 cm of carapace lenght and was released along with Checho, another juvenile green turtle captured 3 days before at the same place by the same shirmp boat. Both turtles were released from the sailboat "Haiku".

Junior fue capturado accidentalmente en una red camaronera el 21 de abril de 2008 en el Canal del Embudo (estuario de Bahía Blanca). Raul y su tripulación del "Santa María de la Scalla" llevaron a la tortuga al puerto de Ingeniero White y llamaron a miembros del PRICTMA. Luego del exámen veterinario se le colocó un transmisor satelital para poder estudiar sus movimientos dentro del estuario y sus migraciones estacionales hacia aguas más calidas durante el invierno. Junior pesó 9.5 kg y midió 40.5 cm de largo de caparazón. Fue liberado junto con Checho, otra tortuga verde juvenil capturada tres días antes en el mismo lugar por la misma embarcación. Ambas tortugas fueron liberadas desde el velero "Haiku".
