Background
Noelle was the second leatherback turtle of the season to be fitted with a satellite transmitter, she was found nesting very close to a nesting green turtle late in the evening. Noelle has been fitted with a sophisticated transmitter made by Wildlife Computers (US). The transmitter will allow us to determine the position of Noelle when she surfaces to breath, and will also gather information on her diving behaviour in this coastal region of Gabon. Pongara National Park is the second most important protected area in Gabon for nesting leatherback turtles.
