Background

Sunrise was first observed on Keewaydin Island on June 2, 2004. She came back five times that summer and laid at least three nests. She returned in 2008 but was only seen laying one nest on the island. Two of the four nests she laid during her previous visits were washed away. The 210 eggs in the remaing two nests resulted in 100 hatchlings reaching the Gulf. She’s back again in 2010 and her first documented nest of the season was during the wee hours of July 1st; by the time she finished sunlight began to glow over the Gulf. Sunrise laid one additional nest this summer.
